PICTURES OF A WALK
In 1998 Peter Sand went on a world trip of a special kind. First he walked from Eastern Switzerland, where he lived, to the west coast of Europe in Northern Spain. From Spain he took a container vessel to the USA and travelled by car and by Harley Davidson across the country. After this he went on in the “traditional” way by airplane and arrived back home in spring 1999 after visits to Hawaii, Thailand and India.
The photographs shown on the next pages were taken in 1998 on the walk from Switzerland to Spain a walk of 1500 miles following the ancient pilgrims’ route “Camino Santiago” which was declared, in 1990, a cultural legacy of Europe.
“What gives us meaning of life lies, above all, in our capability to perceive the beauty of the world,” says Peter Sand, “this was the most important thing I learned on my walk.”
The photos remain as they were captured by the artist, unchanged and unretouched.
These pictures can also be found in the book “Der Plastik-Pilger” (The Plastic-Pilgrim), WOA-Verlag, Zurich,
ISBN 3-9512180-8-8, published in 2002.
